RELAXED OPENING HOURS – SCHOOLS
Dynamic Earth’s Relaxed Opening Hours aim to provide a calm and inclusive environment for visitors; designed for those who would benefit from a more relaxed visit, but open to everyone. These sessions prioritise sensory comfort without compromising on the overall Dynamic Earth experience.
We are looking forward to our next Relaxed Opening Hours Day on Sunday 23rd February 2025.
For schools who would like to visit us on our Relaxed Opening Hours Day, we offer a variety of tailored workshops and planetarium shows for all learners, including those who benefit from more relaxed sessions. These workshops are available on our Relaxed Opening Hours Day and throughout the year. Our Learning and Engagement team can customise workshops across six different themes to meet the specific needs of your learners. We can adjust sensory elements, communication methods, and formats to accommodate any additional support needs. Likewise, our Planetarium team can create tailored shows for your group.
During our Relaxed Opening Hours day, the following adjustments are made for all attendees:
- Reduced visitor numbers throughout the day.
- Alterations to lighting and audio features.
- Disability and neurodiversity awareness training for staff.
- Captions on all videos, and BSL interpretation on the 3pm Planetarium show.
- Flexible admission to our tour and Planetarium.
- Designated quiet space.
We also offer a wide range of support for your school and learners such as:
- A range of sensory aids, including sensory bags, sensory maps, now and next cards, and ear defenders.
- No minimum group size requirement.
- Familiarisation visits for educators.
- Transport subsidies: ASN schools: £6 per pupil, up to 100% of travel costs. | Mainstream schools: Potential transport subsidy for Scottish schools —please contact groups@dynamicearth.org.uk to check eligibility.
