Dynamic Earth has recently welcomed a number of MPs and the Chief Scientific Advisor for Scotland to our Science Centre – providing opportunities for them to experience our exhibition and see the impacts of our programming first hand.

Throughout January, our Leadership Team have hosted visits from Calum Semple (Chief Scientific Advisor for Scotland), Ian Murray (Minister of State jointly in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology) and Chris Murray (Dynamic Earth’s local MP, with the responsibility for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh).

Professor Semple had the opportunity to experience a tour of the Dynamic Earth exhibition, and find out more about how our exhibitions and programming support national priorities across education, lifelong learning, community engagement, skills development and innovation. He also had the opportunity to find out more about how Dynamic Earth works in partnership with fellow science centres and organisations across Scotland to break down barriers between the research community and public audiences.

Ian Murray and Chris Murray attended the launch event of our BSL content in our Planetarium, and had the opportunity to find out more about how our community work and inclusion programmes widen access to science with underrepresented audiences. They also met with our Interim CEO – Anastasia Rocke – and Science Learning and Engagement Director -Conor Ellis – to discover more about the UK’s Network of Science and Discovery Centres and the Association for Science and Discovery Centre’s Science Centres for Our Future Campaign – which calls for fairer recognition and funding for the UKs network of Science and Discovery Centres.
