Starting from 1st March 2026, Dynamic Earth is proud to introduce British Sign Language interpretation to its Planetarium programme, a significant step toward making immersive science experiences more accessible.

This development marks a significant milestone in Dynamic Earth’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion. By offering BSL interpretation across multiple Planetarium films or live shows, Dynamic Earth becomes one of the first science centres in the UK to provide this level of access, setting a new benchmark for inclusive science engagement.

For the first time, visitors will be able to enjoy a selection of Dynamic Earth’s most popular Planetarium films and live shows with BSL interpretation. This includes You Are Here and Don’t Panic!, both developed by Dynamic Earth’s team of in house astronomers. This innovation will facilitate deaf audiences to fully engage with the remarkable stories about planet Earth and the wider universe that we share every day.

The initiative has been made possible thanks to funding from the Birkdale Trust and forms part of a wider programme to improve accessibility for deaf visitors at Dynamic Earth.

The BSL-interpreted lineup includes:
•  You Are Here
•  Don’t Panic
•  Cap Com Go
•  We Are Guardians
•  We Are Stars
•  We Are Aliens

Visitors can enjoy these Planetarium films and live shows as often as they like with our Annual Pass. The pass provides unlimited entry for one year to the centre’s iconic core exhibition, which tells the extraordinary story of planet Earth from beginning to mend.

“Offering inclusive science learning for all is at the heart of everything we do here. Receiving this support marks an important step in providing an even more accessible, welcoming space for the thousands of people who visit us every year. We believe science is for everyone, and by expanding our accessibility offer, we are creating a space where curiosity and discovery are truly accessible to all.”

BUILDING AN ACCESSIBLE SCIENCE CENTRE

This launch is part of a wider strategic push to remove barriers to discovery. Recently, Dynamic Earth has been awarded a grant from the Changing Places Toilets Scotland Fund to install a Changing Places Toilet (CPT) within the centre. Designed for individuals with complex care needs who require specialist equipment and carer support, the new facility will be available to both visitors and the public during opening hours. This investment, delivered by Inspiring Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government, marks a significant step in increasing CPT provision in the local area.

The introduction of BSL and CPT facilities adds to Dynamic Earth’s wide-ranging accessibility features, such as:

• Updated social stories- available digitally or in print- alongside sensory‑friendly bags provided through the Accessibility Hub, and regularly scheduled Relaxed Opening Days and quiet afternoons.
• A fully wheelchair‑accessible venue, featuring ramp access, lifts throughout the building, and convenient access to the car park.
• Captions across all exhibitions and Planetarium shows, with audio guides available in five languages.
• Community engagement activities, including the upcoming Deaf Science Day on 1st March, supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry Outreach Fund.
• Staff trained to assist in emergency evacuations, with additional support available through Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans.

At Dynamic Earth, the belief is simple: everyone can be a problem solver of the future. By expanding our accessibility offer, Dynamic Earth is creating a more welcoming space for everyone.
