Dynamic Earth is excited to announce the launch of a new programme framework which will help shape the future of its learning and engagement work with audiences across Scotland and beyond in the years ahead.
This new framework has been developed to support the centre’s strategic plan – From Beginning to Mend – and underpins the organisation’s commitment to evolving and transforming as a dynamic national engagement charity.
Every year, Dynamic Earth’s learning and engagement programmes reach over 150,000 people. With audiences ranging from school children and teachers to community groups who face barriers to accessing science learning, young people keen to explore careers in science and families and adults who want to stay connected with science throughout their lives – the centre offers programming experiences which empower everyone with understanding and empathy for the Earth.

The centre delivers a diverse and evolving programme, including curriculum-aligned school workshops, professional learning for teachers, science and holiday clubs, outdoor learning experiences, talks and panel discussions, opportunities to meet real scientists and national outreach delivered both in-person and online. Through this work, Dynamic Earth connects with every local authority in Scotland each year.
The organisation’s programmes support key national priorities, including Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence and promote the development of essential meta skills. They are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and children’s rights-based approaches, helping to build science capital and science identity while encouraging meaningful public engagement with current Earth and environmental science topics.

Our Planetarium is a key feature in many school visits and community workshops.
Dynamic Earth’s programmes focus on building skills for Scotland’s future, supporting sustainability and encouraging positive citizenship. The charity is committed to empowering audiences at all stages of their climate and sustainability journey and providing programme experiences that recognise this.

Dynamic Earth hosted Protecting our Planet Day in 2024 – a massive online learning opportunity for schools.
As part of this new direction Dynamic Earth has identified anchoring content priorities which will help guide the centre’s interpretation and storytelling, including highlighting the scientific process, pathways into science and belonging in science. They will also expand the focus of programming to cover a wider range of Earth sciences and sustainability topics, such as energy transitions, the future of transport and food sustainability, as well as the climate and biodiversity emergency.
