Dynamic Earth has this week announced that Mark Bishop has taken the decision to step down from his role as Chief Executive at Edinburgh’s world-class science centre and planetarium.
Bishop has been steering Dynamic Earth since August 2022 and has played a pivotal role guiding the company through a time of significant change.
Under his leadership, Dynamic Earth has successfully launched its new ten-year strategy and made tremendous strides in evolving its programming for a wide range of visitors through an ever-expanding range of seasonal activity and Planetarium Lates; significantly grown its digital schools programme; and been awarded flagship funding to deliver sector-leading community engagement activity.
The Board of Trustees have expressed their gratitude to Bishop for his leadership and contributions over the past three years.
Sir Pete Downes, Chair of the Board commented, “The Board and I are extremely grateful to Mark for his service and the strategic purpose of the organisation he leaves. Thanks to his energy and enthusiasm, the centre’s ongoing evolution will now continue at pace. We wish him the very best for the future.”
A passionate supporter of animal welfare, Mark will be joining the Scottish SPCA as its new Chief Executive in August, where he will embark on a new chapter of people leadership, fundraising and business delivery:
“It has been an immense privilege to work with the team at the Edinburgh Science Centre & Planetarium,” said Bishop. “Their passion for people, science engagement, and making Dynamic Earth effective for the future is immense. After three very rewarding, varied and inspirational years here, now is the right time for me to move on.”
Dynamic Earth will shortly embark upon a comprehensive search to identify a new leader. In the interim, Corporate Services Director Anastasia Rocke will be appointed as Interim CEO, to ensure continuity.
